Congratulations to Bushwacker the 2011 PBR Bucking Bull of the year, crowned during the PBR World Finals in Las Vegas last month. Bushwacker is owned by Cowboy Museum member Julio Moreno of J.Moreno Bucking Bulls, of Oakdale. Moreno, who is a PRCA Team Roper and former national finalist is no stranger to nerve racking situations in the arena, but said it was a whole different set of nerves standing behind the bucking chutes and watching your livestock buck. The son of legendary bull Reindeer Dippin’ and out of Cow 13, Lady Luck, Bushwacker didn’t particularly shine as a calf with a bucking dummy aboard. But three years later in a practice pen outside Reno, he showed everything you wanted in a bull of that age. He competed in the American Bucking Bull, Inc (ABBI) as a wild card in Vegas during the PBR Finals, placed second and advanced among the top 5 bulls in the ABBI Classic Finals. After hauling around the ABBI Circuit, he later was crowned the top bucking bull at the ABBI Classic Finals as a four year old and won $250K. The next step was the big league, the PBR. What makes Bushwacker different is that he’s very smart. Just when a cowboy thinks they have him figured out he’ll do the opposite. JB Mauney, a PBR finalist said, “I’ve been on Bushwacker six different times and he’s had six different trips with me.” Moreno says “he’s honest in the chute. He’ll let the cowboy get on without flinching but when the chute gate opens he has an exciting leap and makes one or two big jumps to the right or left very fast.” Bushwacker has been bucked out of the chute 19 times this year and has not had anyone ride him the full 8 seconds, which means he would have worked less than two minutes this year. “I’m very proud of him” says Moreno, with a big smile. Bushwacker will be home in Oakdale the whole month of January 2012 and can be seen at some of the Built Ford Tough Events on the West coast.
